EasyAutoRig FAQ
Before You Buy
The questions in this section are intended for users who have not
purchased EasyAutoRig yet and are deciding whether it fits their
workflow.
1. Who is EasyAutoRig best suited for?
EasyAutoRig is most useful for Unreal Engine developers who already have
a real humanoid rigging need, for example:
- You already have a humanoid T Pose / A Pose Static Mesh
- You want to move a character into a UE5 animation workflow faster
- You are building a Gameplay Prototype or indie game prototype
- You frequently need to test different humanoid characters
- You are not comfortable with a complete Blender / Maya rigging
workflow - You do not want to rebuild a UE5-style skeleton, initial weights,
and Physics Asset from scratch every time
Its core value is not to eliminate every part of character rigging, but
to automate as much of the repetitive 0 → 1 work as possible.
2. I am still learning Unreal Engine. Do I need to buy EasyAutoRig now?
Not necessarily.
If you are still learning Unreal Engine fundamentals and do not
currently have a real character-rigging need, you can wait.
It makes more sense to consider EasyAutoRig when you actually run into
situations such as:
- You downloaded or purchased a humanoid Static Mesh that is not yet
ready for animation - You want to quickly test a Manny / UE5-style animation workflow
- You are building a Gameplay Prototype and need to get a character
moving quickly - You find yourself repeating the same basic rigging work
If you do not have these needs yet, it is perfectly fine to buy it later
when the need becomes real.
3. Can EasyAutoRig replace a professional Character Rigger?
No.
Professional character rigging may also involve:
- High-quality Skin Weight refinement
- Facial Rigging
- Corrective Shapes
- Cloth / Hair Rigging
- Unusual character structures
- Advanced Deformation
- Project-specific Control Rigs
EasyAutoRig is intended to move the basic rigging process to a usable
starting point that can still be tested and refined.
For prototypes, indie game development, animation testing, and rapid
validation, that can already be very useful. For high-end final
character assets, professional refinement may still be necessary.
4. AccuRig already provides automatic rigging. Why would I need EasyAutoRig?
AccuRig is a mature humanoid auto-rigging tool. EasyAutoRig is not
intended to prove that AccuRig is “bad” or unnecessary.
EasyAutoRig focuses on a more specific Unreal Engine workflow:
If you already have a compatible humanoid T/A Pose Static Mesh
inside Unreal Engine and your goal is to quickly create a UE5-style
Skeleton, Skeletal Mesh, initial Skin Weights, and an optional Physics
Asset, you can complete that workflow directly inside UE.
If you already have an AccuRig workflow that works well for you, there
is no need to switch tools just for EasyAutoRig.
EasyAutoRig is more relevant when you want to reduce round trips to
external tools and keep more of the basic rigging workflow inside Unreal
Engine.
5. Blender Auto-Rig Pro already does a lot. Why would I need EasyAutoRig?
Auto-Rig Pro is a mature Blender rigging solution and has a broader
feature set than EasyAutoRig.
The two tools are aimed at different workflows.
EasyAutoRig emphasizes:
Static Mesh already in Unreal Engine → Place Landmarks → Generate a
UE5-style Skeleton / Skeletal Mesh / initial weights / optional
Physics Asset.
If your character-production workflow already lives in Blender and you
are comfortable with Auto-Rig Pro, continuing to use that workflow is
completely reasonable.
EasyAutoRig is more meaningful when your main workspace is Unreal Engine
and you want to reduce Blender ↔ UE round trips.
6. Can’t Mixamo also auto-rig characters?
Yes. Mixamo is also a valid option.
EasyAutoRig is not trying to be a general online auto-rigging service.
It is designed around an Unreal Engine workflow and generates a
UE5-style humanoid skeleton together with Twist Bones, IK Bones, Helper
Bones, initial Skin Weights, and an optional Physics Asset.
If Mixamo already fully satisfies your project requirements, there is no
need to purchase EasyAutoRig.
Consider EasyAutoRig when your goal is to get a starting rig that fits
more naturally into a UE5-oriented animation workflow.
7. My character already has a Skeleton and Skin Weights. Do I still need EasyAutoRig?
Usually, no.
If the character already has a good Skeleton and Skin Weights and works
correctly in your Unreal Engine animation pipeline, there is no reason
to re-rig it just to use EasyAutoRig.
EasyAutoRig is mainly intended for:
Unrigged humanoid Static Meshes, making it easier and faster for
them to enter the Unreal Engine animation ecosystem.
8. Does EasyAutoRig support facial bones / Facial Rigging?
Automatic Facial Rigging is not currently supported.
EasyAutoRig currently focuses on the body humanoid-rigging workflow.
Facial expressions, Facial Bones, Morph Targets, MetaHuman Facial
Rigging, and similar facial systems are outside the current auto-rigging
scope.
9. Does EasyAutoRig support quadrupeds, animals, monsters, or multi-arm characters?
The officially supported target is currently standard biped humanoid
characters.
It is not recommended for:
- Quadrupeds
- Spiders or other multi-legged characters
- Snake-like characters
- Non-humanoid monsters
- Multi-arm characters
- Characters whose body structure differs heavily from a standard
humanoid
Whether a Stylized Humanoid is suitable depends on its actual anatomy,
Landmark placement, and Validate Rig result.
10. Can EasyAutoRig convert an already-rigged custom Skeleton directly into a Manny Skeleton?
EasyAutoRig’s current main workflow is:
Unrigged Static Mesh → Create a new UE5-style Skeleton / Skeletal
Mesh.
It is not a general Skeleton Conversion / Bone Remapping tool.
11. When is EasyAutoRig most worth buying?
Ask yourself one question first:
Am I repeatedly doing “humanoid Static Mesh → UE5-usable Skeletal
Mesh” work?
If you only rig a character occasionally and are already comfortable
with Blender, Maya, AccuRig, Auto-Rig Pro, or another rigging workflow,
EasyAutoRig may not provide much additional value.
If you frequently:
- Download or purchase different humanoid characters
- Build Gameplay Prototypes
- Test animations
- Quickly evaluate whether a character fits a project
- Want to avoid rebuilding UE5-style skeletons and initial weights
repeatedly
then EasyAutoRig’s main value is reducing repetitive work so you can
spend more time on the parts that actually require human judgment and
refinement.
Core Features and Input Limitations
12. What does EasyAutoRig do?
EasyAutoRig is a humanoid character auto-rigging tool for Unreal Engine.
Starting from a compatible humanoid Static Mesh, it helps you quickly
create:
- A UE5-style humanoid Skeleton
- Skeletal Mesh
- Initial automatic skin weights
- Twist Bones
- IK Bones
- Helper Bones
- Optional Physics Asset
The basic workflow is:
Static Mesh → Landmark → Joint Center → Validate Rig → Rig → Skeletal
Mesh
Its goal is to reduce repetitive basic rigging work and help you get
characters into animation testing and Gameplay prototyping faster.
13. Can EasyAutoRig generate perfect skin weights with one click?
Not guaranteed.
EasyAutoRig’s automatic skinning is better understood as a fast,
usable starting point, rather than “production-ready weights for every
character with no manual adjustment required.”
Final skinning quality can be affected by many factors, including:
- Model topology
- Body proportions
- Landmark placement
- Clothing
- Skirts
- Hair
- Armor
- Detached components
- Geometry around joints
Some characters may already be suitable for prototyping and general
animation tests after generation, while others may still need manual
refinement around the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, fingers, clothing,
or other local areas.
The recommended workflow is:
Use EasyAutoRig to quickly complete 0 → 1 → Test real animations →
Fix only the areas that actually need adjustment
instead of painting the entire set of weights from scratch.
14. What kinds of characters does EasyAutoRig support?
EasyAutoRig currently mainly supports:
- Standard biped humanoids
- T Pose
- A Pose
- Approximately symmetrical left and right sides
- Character facing world
+Y - World
+Zas Up - Main body near the local origin
- Body center near
X = 0
The following poses are not treated as officially supported input:
- Sitting poses
- Running poses
- Combat poses
- Crossed arms
- One leg raised
- Strong torso twisting
- Other arbitrary action poses
15. Why does EasyAutoRig only support T Pose and A Pose?
EasyAutoRig does more than generate bones from a few points. It also
analyzes the spatial relationships between different parts of the human
body.
For example:
- Shoulder
- Upper Arm
- Forearm
- Torso
- Hip
- Thigh
- Knee
- Calf
T Pose and A Pose provide relatively stable anatomical relationships,
which makes these judgments more reliable.
With arbitrary action poses, a hand may move close to the chest, legs
may cross, or the torso may rotate, introducing a large amount of
ambiguity into body-region analysis.
For this reason, EasyAutoRig currently limits its supported input to T
Pose / A Pose.
16. Does the model have to be a nude base mesh?
No.
The model can include:
- Clothing
- Shoes
- Hair
- Skirts
- Capes
- Tails
- Accessories
- Armor
- Multiple independent Mesh Components
However, the more complex the model structure is, the less reliable
human-body surface information the automatic algorithms may be able to
obtain.
As a result, complex characters are more likely to use
GeodesicCompatibility instead of SemanticFull.
This is a normal compatibility path and does not mean the Rig has
failed.
Auto Skinning, Landmarks, and Validate Rig
17. What is SemanticFull?
SemanticFull is EasyAutoRig’s complete humanoid semantic skinning path.
Instead of assigning weights only based on the distance between Bones
and Vertices, it attempts to understand human-body regions in the
current geometry, such as:
- Head / Neck
- Torso / Spine
- Shoulder
- Upper Arm
- Elbow
- Forearm
- Wrist
- Hand
- Pelvis / Hip
- Thigh
- Knee
- Calf
- Foot
If the model and Landmarks provide sufficiently reliable anatomical
information, Validate Rig can select SemanticFull.
18. What is GeodesicCompatibility? Does it mean the Rig failed?
No.
If Validate Rig shows:

it means the current model does not meet the requirements for the
complete SemanticFull path, so EasyAutoRig selected the UE Geodesic
Voxel compatibility skinning route before actual skinning execution.
As long as Validate Rig says you can continue, you can normally click
Rig.
GeodesicCompatibility can still generate:
- Skeleton
- Skeletal Mesh
- Skin Weights
- Physics Asset
Afterward, it is recommended to inspect deformation around the main
joints.
19. My model topology looks standard. Why is GeodesicCompatibility still selected?
If the character’s edge flow, topology, and general anatomy look
reasonable, but Validate Rig still selects GeodesicCompatibility, the
first thing to re-check is the Landmark placement.
SemanticFull does not depend on topology alone. Landmarks are also an
important part of how EasyAutoRig understands the character’s anatomy.
In particular, check:
- Whether each Landmark is actually located at the corresponding
anatomical joint - Whether Shoulder, Elbow, and Wrist positions are reasonable
- Whether Hip, Knee, and Ankle positions are reasonable
- Whether pelvis, spine, and neck follow the body center line
- Whether left and right Landmarks are approximately symmetrical
- Whether distances between adjacent Landmarks match the character’s
actual body proportions - Whether clothing, skirts, or armor caused a Landmark to be placed on
an incorrect outer surface - Whether the Joint Center is located at a reasonable position inside
the body
For example, a Knee Landmark may look like it is “near the knee,” but if
it is actually too far away from the real knee joint, the semantic
relationship between the thigh and calf may become unreliable.
So if:
The model topology looks fine + Validate Rig still selects
GeodesicCompatibility
do not immediately assume the model is unsupported.
Try checking and adjusting the Landmarks, then run Validate Rig again.
If the Landmarks, Joint Centers, and body proportions are all reasonable
but GeodesicCompatibility is still selected, then the model geometry is
more likely to lack the surface evidence required by the full
SemanticFull path.
20. How do I know whether a Landmark is placed correctly?
A simple rule is:
A Landmark should describe the real joint inside the body, not
merely sit on the outer silhouette of the mesh.
For example:
lowerarm
It should be placed where the arm actually bends.
calf
It should be placed where the thigh and calf actually rotate relative to
each other.
pelvis
It should be placed near the real joint between the pelvis and thigh.
hand
It should be placed where the forearm connects to the hand.
If the character wears a wide skirt or thick armor, do not treat a
Landmark as simply “a marker attached to the clothing surface.”
You need to judge:
Where is the actual anatomical joint inside the clothing?
21. Joint Center is calculated automatically. Why do I still need to adjust it manually?
Joint Center tries to move a Landmark from the mesh surface toward the
local volume center.
This gives you a reasonably good initial position quickly.
However, the “geometric volume center” is not always the same as the
“real anatomical joint center.”
For example, a character may have:
- Thick sleeves
- Shoulder armor
- A skirt
- Boots
- Armor
- Irregular clothing
These shapes can all change the local volume.
Therefore:
Joint Center is an aid, not the final answer.
It is recommended to continue checking with:
- Front view
- Left view
- Skeleton Preview
- Plane Guide
22. Validate Rig is yellow. Can I continue?
Yes.
Yellow / Ready, Review Warnings means:
There is still a valid rigging route, but there are some things you
should pay attention to.
Common cases include:
- A region is using a fallback recognition method
- SemanticFull is unavailable
- GeodesicCompatibility is selected
- Body proportions have a Retargeting Risk
- A region should be inspected carefully after Rig
Yellow does not mean failure.
As long as the Report clearly says you can continue to Rig, you can
continue.
23. Validate Rig is green. Does that mean the final weights are perfect?
No.
Green / Ready means:
No problem has currently been found that would block the rigging
workflow.
It does not mean:
The automatic weights have already passed every animation test and
require no further adjustment.
It is still recommended to test the final result with actual animations,
especially:
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Hip
- Knee
- Wrist
- Fingers
Validate Rig answers the question “is the current rigging route valid?”
Final deformation quality still needs to be verified through animation
testing.
24. What should I do if Validate Rig is red?
Red / Cannot Rig means a problem has been found that blocks the current
rigging workflow.
Check:
- Whether the model is in T Pose / A Pose
- Whether it is +Y Forward
- Whether all Landmarks have been placed
- Whether any Landmarks are obviously misplaced
- Whether Joint Centers are reasonable
- Whether Skeleton Preview passes through the real anatomical joints
- Which region is identified by the Report
After correcting the problem, run Validate Rig again.
25. Why doesn’t EasyAutoRig silently switch to Geodesic after SemanticFull fails?
This is intentional.
The intended flow is:

If the model has already been confirmed as SemanticFull-compatible and
an internal failure occurs after SemanticFull begins, EasyAutoRig does
not hide that failure and silently switch to Geodesic.
Otherwise, real software bugs could easily be hidden by a “successful
fallback.”
Therefore:
Compatibility fallback happens before execution, not after a
failure.
26. What is Skeleton Only?
Skeleton Only means:
Use EasyAutoRig to generate the UE5-style skeleton, without using the
final automatic skinning result.
It is suitable when:
- The current model is not suitable for automatic skinning
- You only need a Skeleton quickly
- You plan to paint the weights yourself
- You want to continue skinning later in Blender / Maya
You can still save a large amount of repetitive work, including:
- Bone creation
- Bone Naming
- Bone Hierarchy
- Twist Bones
- IK Bones
- Helper Bones
27. What if the character does not have five fingers?
You can adjust this in EasyAutoRig’s Hand / Finger settings.
Standard five-finger characters usually do not require any changes to
the default settings.
If the character:
- Is missing some fingers
- Has only four fingers
- Has only three fingers
- Uses a different number of Bones in some fingers
set the corresponding Finger Count / Bone Count to match the actual
model before placing the hand Landmarks.
Output, Animation, and Post-Rig Checks
28. Can the generated Physics Asset be used directly in a game?
EasyAutoRig aims to generate a Physics Asset that can serve as a
practical starting point for game development.
After generation, open the Physics Asset Editor and use:
Simulate
to inspect the Ragdoll.
For standard humanoid characters, you may only need to make small
adjustments to:
- Body position
- Body size
- Body Scale
Characters with unusual proportions may still require additional
project-specific adjustment.
Like automatic skin weights, the generated Physics Asset is better
treated as a fast, usable foundation rather than a final result that
never needs testing.
29. Rig succeeded, so why does the animation still look wrong?
A successful Rig only means the rigging workflow completed.
Animation quality can also be affected by:
- Skin Weights
- Skeleton Joint Position
- Character body proportions
- Animation Retargeting
- IK Rig
- IK Retargeter
- The Animation itself
So if an animation looks wrong, first determine whether the problem
comes from:
Skeleton, Skin Weight, or Retargeting.
Do not assume that an animation issue automatically means the automatic
skinning failed.
30. Does EasyAutoRig generate a Manny Skeleton?
EasyAutoRig aims to generate a Skeleton that follows UE5 standard
humanoid skeleton style and conventions, including:
- Bone Naming
- Hierarchy
- Twist Bones
- IK Bones
- Helper Bones
This makes it easier to continue using Unreal Engine systems such as:
- IK Rig
- IK Retargeter
- Control Rig
- Animation Blueprint
- Gameplay Animation Workflow
However, the character’s body proportions may differ significantly from
Manny, so final Retarget results still need to be tested.
31. Why do I see Retargeting Risk?
Retargeting Risk usually means the current character’s body proportions
differ noticeably from common Manny proportions.
For example:
- Very narrow shoulders
- Very long arms
- Very short legs
- Anime-style head/body proportions
- Unusual Stylized Body proportions
This does not mean the Rig failed.
It is simply a reminder:
When using Manny animations or IK Retargeter later, test the animation
result carefully.
32. Do multiple independent Mesh Components affect rigging?
They do not necessarily block the Rig.
EasyAutoRig can handle characters with multiple independent components,
such as:
- Body
- Hair
- Clothes
- Shoes
- Accessories
However, the more independent components there are and the more
fragmented the human-body surface becomes, the harder it is to establish
complete SemanticFull evidence.
These characters are therefore more likely to use GeodesicCompatibility.
Whether the result is usable should ultimately be judged by Validate Rig
and actual animation testing.
33. Can skirts, capes, and long hair get perfect automatic weights?
Not guaranteed.
These regions are naturally more complex than the main body because they
may:
- Extend far away from the body
- Cross multiple Bone regions
- Require Cloth Simulation
- Have special Gameplay requirements
EasyAutoRig can help generate initial weights, but long skirts, long
capes, and long hair may still need manual refinement.
If your project plans to use Cloth Simulation, you can also use the
EasyAutoRig result as an initial foundation and continue from there.
34. Which areas should I inspect first after Rig?
At minimum, test:
- Shoulder
- Elbow
- Hip
- Knee
- Wrist
- Fingers
Then inspect:
- Clothing
- Hair
- Skirt
- Cape
- Accessories
The most effective way to test is not to look only at a static
character, but to actually play:
- Arm Raise
- Elbow Bend
- Leg Raise
- Knee Bend
- Walk
- Run
35. Why not just rig everything manually from scratch?
You absolutely can.
If you are already comfortable with Blender, Maya, or Unreal Engine Skin
Weight Tools and are willing to complete the entire rig manually, that
is a valid workflow.
EasyAutoRig mainly solves the time cost.
Its goal is to move you from:
Static Mesh
to:
A Skeletal Mesh that can play animations, support Gameplay
prototyping, and be refined further
as quickly as possible.
Then you can spend your time on the parts that actually require human
judgment.
36. What is EasyAutoRig best suited for?
It is especially useful for:
- Rapid game prototyping
- Quickly evaluating purchased or downloaded humanoid models
- Quickly creating UE5-style skeletons for indie game characters
- Fast animation testing
- Quickly generating initial Skin Weights
- Unreal Engine developers who are not comfortable with complete DCC
Rigging workflows - Development workflows that want to reduce repetitive rigging work
Its core value can be summarized in one sentence:
EasyAutoRig does not try to eliminate every part of character
rigging. It tries to complete as much of the repetitive 0 → 1 work as
possible, so your character can get into the game faster.
Updates and Support
37. Will EasyAutoRig continue to receive major new features?
EasyAutoRig’s core feature set is now largely complete.
Future development will mainly focus on:
- Fixing reproducible bugs reported by users
- Addressing necessary stability issues
- Maintaining Unreal Engine version compatibility when needed
Your current purchase decision should be based on the features the
plugin already provides today, not on future features I have not
promised.
If new capabilities are added in the future, they will be documented in
the changelog.
38. What information should I provide when reporting a bug?
If you encounter a problem that can be reproduced consistently, please
provide as much of the following as possible:
- Unreal Engine version
- Clear reproduction steps
- Relevant Validate Rig / Report information and output logs
- Screenshots or a short screen recording when useful
- If relevant, a general description of the model type, pose, and
structure
The most useful bug report is not simply “it is broken,” but:
In this environment, after these steps, this result happens
consistently.
That makes the issue much easier to diagnose and fix.
